Three members of the Charon K9 Search and Rescue team deployed Sunday (7/10/22) afternoon after receiving a callout from Warm Springs Tribal Police Department. K9 Jax, his handler and a support member responded to a request for a tracking and trailing dog at the Trout Lake Campground, after a car was found in a suspicious state.  While the owner of the car was safe, the driver of the car, a Mr. Edward Bock was still missing.

The team was successful at determining a direction of travel away from the car into the wilderness on an established path, but the trail dissipated after approximately 1km.  After K9 Jax gave a negative, the team restarted the dog at the PLS.  No other direction of travel was conclusive.

Bock’s vehicle was located on 7.7.22 unlocked, the driver’s window down and the back hatch open.  Edward Bock was last seen on 7.4.22 in Bend, OR and then again in the Tetherow Crossing area on 7.6.22 around 1400.  The car had been towed and impounded by Tribal LE.

An inspection of Bock’s vehicle in the impound yard yielded numerous personal effects including but not limited to his wallet with drivers license, a laptop computer, approximately $80 in cash bills. A towel, used as a driver’s side seat pad was removed from the vehicle to use as a scent article for K9 Jax.  The contents and state of the car (wide open but not rifled through) created concern over Bock’s welfare.

Bock was recovered a week after our deployment in Clackamas County.  He had departed from the vehicle in the direction that Jax indicated and had kept walking west attempting to reach a prominent bluff in the area.  He became lost, eventually finding his way out of the wilderness almost 30 miles to the west.
